Richard Genzer on StarDance: A Fun and Controversial Judge

He doesn’t takewith too seriously and that’s how he approaches the contestants as well. What about the rating, some kind of funny story or news. “Fellow judges evaluate the performances of the couples in terms of dance, I take it as theater,” the dance conservatory graduate revealed. He is on the StarDance jury for the third time this year, in the ninth row he himself competed with a dancer Jana Zelenková and he made it to the fifth round. “I took it because I went through the competition myself as a dancer and I really enjoy the atmosphere. On the other hand, judging someone is difficult. Everyone has different tastes. Someone likes dill, someone likes tomato.” added Richard Genzer.

Kind of fun?

However, his way of evaluating couples sometimes offends viewers. “How is it possible that public television allows this and treats it as a form of entertainment,” one of the viewers complained on Facebook. And more were added. “Completely counterproductive approach of Mr. G., who was used to presenting programs such as Teletele, Srandičky and Partička, which are genres thrown into the style of the more obscene words, the better you are at the top of the evening,” added another. More and more similar comments are appearing on social networks.

An established ritual

“StarDance is not a detective story, there is no investigation into who the murderer is. I like that they are such festive evenings, everything is dressed up and nice,” comments Geňa with his own humor, who already has a ritual in place with his fellow judges: they have coffee and a sandwich in the canteen before the live broadcasts. Watch StarDance every Saturday from 8:10 p.m. on Czech Television.

Geno’s biggest announcements

To Marko Adamczyk (35) and Lena Nora Návorková (32):

“Theatrical performance was great, but at the end I was afraid that the baby would keep crying, he would want to breastfeed and you would give him to me.”

To Josef Maršálk (41) and Adriana Mašková (25):

“I’m on a diet, so you’re my worst enemy. We always come and the donuts are gone. I feel like a vacuum cleaner, I put my mouth on the carpet and eat what’s left there.’

To Darija Pavlovičová (21) and Dominik Vodička (26):

“Thank you for not putting it there, there would be blood on the floor.”

To Ivana Chylková (60) and Jan Tománek (52):

“It seemed to me like an electric car, the beginning is good, I overtake everyone and at the end I’m already going 90 to finish.”

To Richard Krajč (46) and Dominica Rošková (32):

“So this was earthy and dancing in the garden, I think even the mole will move.”

To Vavřinec Hradilko (36) and Kateřina Bartůněk Hrstková (36):

“I would call the whole dance an escape game to avoid samba. At the same time, your legs are completely fresh, as you ride in a kayak and they are not worn out.”

To David Prachař (64) and Zuzana Dvořáková Šťastná (30):

“You wouldn’t have met even if you danced until tomorrow, but it was better than the first round.”
