Jogokariyan Mosque Manager, Mantrijeron, Kota Yogyakarta for gifts for the dawn prayer congregation named Muhammad and Maryam on Sunday (26/6).
The gift-sharing activity was announced by the mosque management via social media. The announcement made by the administrators of the Jogokariyan Mosque was: “Wanted! THESE NAMES GET A SPECIAL GIFT! SUNDAY MORNING only 26/6/2022 Muhammad and Maryam.”
The prizes provided are: tumblrculinary coupons, books, merchandise mosque, coffee and others.
Jogokariyan Mosque Advisor Muhammad Jazir said the prize-giving activity was in response to the promotion of Holywings Indonesia alcoholic drinks for customers named Muhammad and Maria. The promotion led to controversy and legal proceedings.
“The announcement (Muhammad and Maryam) was made in response to blasphemy by Holywings,” said Jazir, Monday (27/6).
According to Jazir, the public response to the mosque’s activities was very positive.
Jazir claimed that there were at least about 100 people named Muhammad and Maryam who attended the morning prayers in congregation at the Jogokariyan Mosque. In fact, according to him, the congregation did not only come from the Special Region of Yogyakarta (DIY).
“The furthest from Bandung,” he said.
He also hopes that such methods can maintain the community’s faith. Jazir wants Muslims to be able to take care of themselves.
Jazir himself assesses the promotion of Holywings alcohol has hurt the hearts of Muslims. He considers the use of religious symbols for negative purposes to be a sign of people’s disrespect for religious values.
“Hopefully such content will not happen again,” he said.
Reportedly, Holywings has been criticized for issuing free alcohol promotions every Thursday for those named Muhammad and Maria.
But not long after, the promotional post was deleted and Holywings apologized. Holywings was criticized for the promotion.
Six Holywings staff have been named suspects in this case. They were charged with multiple layers of articles, namely Article 14 Paragraph 1 and Paragraph 2 of Law No. 1/1946 and also Article 156 or Article 156a of the Criminal Code.
Then Article 28 Paragraph 2 of RI Law No. 19 of 2016 concerning amendments to RI Law No. 11 of 2008 concerning ITE. The maximum penalty is 10 years in prison.
Holywings Indonesia stated that it would continue to monitor the development of the case of this free alcohol drink promo. They also said they would not give up on this case.
“Currently six persons responsible for the promotion have been detained, undergoing legal proceedings, and have been handled by the police and the authorities. We will ensure that we will continue to monitor the development of this case, take firm action, and will never let go,” wrote Holywings in a statement. his statement uploaded on the Instagram account @holywingsindonesia, Sunday (26/6).
