By Le Figaro with Reuters

Renault to consider transfer of vehicle assembly activity from its Maubeuge plant to its Douai site as part of the savings plan it must present at the end of the week, two sources told Reuters. close to the group.

The two sites in the North of France are approximately 70 km apart. This project would strengthen Douai’s assembly activity and once again specialize Maubeuge in stamping and sheet metal work, signaling a return of the site to its original vocation. A Renault spokesperson was not immediately available to comment.

Optimizing the group’s industrial facilities at the diamond will be at the heart of the two billion euro savings plan that it must present Thursday evening to its unions meeting in an extraordinary CCSE.

Closure of several sites

According to several French media, the plan could also lead to the closure of the Choisy site, whose mechanical recycling activity would be transferred elsewhere, the Brittany Foundry in Caudan and the Alpine assembly site in Dieppe.

The Maubeuge factory, currently specialized in small vans, was created in 1969 by the Société des Usines Chausson, which later became Chausson Carrosserie and then a Renault subsidiary in the late 1970s. Last year, it employed around 1,600 people.
