Regular buses no longer go to the Vorstadt stop

For twelve years there was an unsightly emergency solution with the bus stop at the corner of Mhderweg and Zellingen. This should now be over, the majority of the municipal council voted for a compromise: In favor of a total of three stops in Zellingen, the stop in the suburbs will no longer be served by public buses. They will continue to drive school buses.

The stop at the corner of Mhderweg was even described as an “unsustainable and dangerous situation” in the session draft. In addition to the dangers of getting on and off school children, there is the problem that the Mhderweg-Leinacherweg intersection is blocked during bus stops.

The situation arose because the shortest route between the Vorstadt and Rathaus bus stops is no longer drivable for the big buses. If you turn left from Turmstrasse into Wrzburger Strasse, they would get stuck in the gate tower. Therefore, drive straight ahead there, use the bus stop in Billingshuser Strasse, turn left into Maistrae and from there into Sanderaustrae and stop at Mhderweg.

The desired solution of the community could not be implemented

“We fought hard for a solution”, emphasized the second mayor Andrea Hedrfer in the local council. However, the wish of the community that the buses drive up Billingshuser Strasse to the roundabout, turn around and then turn right in front of the gate tower, could not be implemented. Ultimately, Monika Mtzel, PNV representative in the Main-Spessart district office, insisted that this was not feasible due to the timing of the timetable. “We shouldn’t see Zellingen as an island,” said Andrea Hedrfer.

There were two possible solutions for the bus service from Karlstadt to Wrzburg (line 8068): With the first only the two stops Vorstadt and Billingshuser Strasse would be served, the ones at the Rathaus (Wrzburger Strasse) and Braunen See no longer. The majority of the municipal council decided in favor of the second option. The bus enters Zellingen via the roundabout and then serves the Billingshuser Strasse, Rathaus and Brauer See stops. Since the Billingshuser Strasse stop is to become the transfer point for all bus routes in the future, funding of up to EUR 5500 for a bus stop would be possible.

Not all rats liked the solution. “Zellingen has grown, but there are no stops”, criticizes Sonja Rupp (Die Grnen). This will not strengthen the PNV, to which some areas such as the Lerlach, are already poorly connected, but weaken it. Stefan Herrmann (Free Citizens) was also not enthusiastic. But he thought that the stop at the town hall should not be given up. What would happen if the local council did not vote, asked Michael Hedrfer (CSU). “Then next year it will stay as it is now”, answered Mayor Stefan Wohlart.

Vote at 11: 5

The mayor also had figures on the distances. From the last house in the new Kapelle building area, it is 475 meters as the crow flies to the Vorstadt stop and 625 meters to Billingshuser Strasse. When the decided stair tower from the new Main Bridge to the Retzbach train station is finished, it will only be 450 meters there.

As a resident of Tiefenbacher Strasse, he knows the bottleneck (for the buses) Maistrae, reported Rudi Rder (CSU). It is easier to get to the Billingshuser Strasse stop than to the suburbs, he said, and the latter stop is not safe because of the traffic. “So the buses should go out so that we have space for the cars,” said Sonja Rupp. That’s not an argument, Rder replied, the residents’ cars are always there.

This led to far-reaching contributions to the discussion. “We have too much individual traffic,” said Volker Wingenfeld (Green). He could not agree to any variant, said Wieland Gsell (Greens), both of which are going in the wrong direction in order to achieve a changed traffic behavior against climate change. He also reported that during his tenure as mayor he had been asked repeatedly about a stop in Lerlach.

In the vote, there was no vote for the first variant (with only two stops) and eleven to five votes for the second variant (with three stops).
