New Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Monday lashed out at the Center for targeting farmers’ agents in Punjab through income tax raids and notices. He alleged that the central government was taking such steps to weaken the farmers’ protest.
The Income Tax Department has issued notices to several farming agents in Punjab. The Income Tax Department has also conducted raids in the last few days. They are reportedly supporting the farmers’ agitation against the new farming laws.
‘The Center is conducting income tax raids against businessmen in Punjab who support the farmers’ strike. It is wrong to harass businessmen in this way, ”Kejriwal tweeted. This is done to weaken the protest of the farmers. Today the whole country is with the farmers. Who will the central government raid? ‘He asked.
Kejriwal also criticized the Center shortly after Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh said the raids were a clear tactic to curb the democratic rights and freedoms of farmers’ agents. Amarinder Singh said 14 farm agents across Punjab had received notices from the Income Tax Department and were conducting raids within four days of receiving the notices.
