Red light district Essen: raid in 17 brothels, one closed due to “health risks”

According to a customs spokeswoman, a woman was suspected of being illegally in Germany. In four cases, it is now checked whether there is fraud on social benefits. Customs wants to examine business documents more closely for six employers.

The police found “white powder”, probably a drug, in a brothel. A drug detection dog was also used. A man who failed to pay a fine was temporarily detained by the police.

Large-scale operations lasted until Saturday morning

At the start of the raid, police officers secured the entrances to the street near downtown. A little later, numerous men left the cordoned off area. The inspection of the companies and the prostitutes dragged on until early Saturday morning.

Because of “unsustainable hygienic conditions”, the city ordered the immediate closure of a brothel. “We assume that there is a health risk for the employed women,” said city spokeswoman Silke Lenz.

The women had to vacate the brothel at night. Prior to this, employees of the regulatory office had discovered six completely overcrowded garages, numerous dog droppings and rats.
