MADRID – Croatian football representative Luka Modric will probably end his career at Real Madrid after twelve years.
According to the DPA agency, the management of the current La Liga leader is not going to extend Modric’s contract in the summer. The 38-year-old midfielder is likely to move to Saudi Arabia or the USA as Real coach Carlo Ancelotti prefers younger midfielders such as Jude Bellingham, Federico Valverde and Eduardo Camavinga.
Modric no longer plays regularly in the starting line-up. In Tuesday’s opening round of 16 match against RB Leipzig (1:0), he sat on the substitutes’ bench.
The 2018 World Cup runner-up came to Madrid in 2012. With the club, he won five Champions League titles (2013/14, 2015/16, 2016/17, 2017/18, 2021/22) and won La Liga three times (2016/17 , 2019/20, 2021/22). In the 2018 season, he won the Golden Ball, which is awarded annually to the best soccer player in the world.
