It’s the green and white top transfer this summer! Rapid changes the beer sponsor, instead of Ottakringer there is now Gösser in Hütteldorf.
The fans are divided. There is wild discussion on Twitter and Facebook. Many fans are happy that the beer sponsor now also matches the club’s colors, and that the beer itself is simply better than the product from Ottakring.
Other supporters do not like the corporate orientation of the new Sposors, which is known to be part of the Heineken Group. The connection between the traditional Viennese beer and the traditional club was important for them.

Ottakringer celebrated victories in the west of Vienna for 26 years. In future, Gösser will therefore deliver the barley juice to the Allianz Stadium. Until 2025, the beer from Styria will be the cold refreshment for thirsty fans.

Poster as a trigger?
But why was there an amicable separation from the Viennese beer brand? The long-time Ottakringer boss Siegfried Menz was still on the green-and-white presidium under Rudolf Edlinger and had contributed to the extension of the contract with Steffen Hofmann.
Recently, however, the once so close partnership has cracked. These had become publicly effective in the media through the misogynistic banner of the Block West before the 0-1 defeat against Hartberg. Ottakringer had declared that this attitude was incompatible with the corporate spirit. The corona crisis and the associated losses could have contributed to the rest.
