The Ford F-150 Raptor pickup made its debut ten years ago, but it still has no direct competitors. Built with a similar recipe Chevrolet colorado zr2 acts in a more compact segment and competes with the model Ford Ranger Raptorand the Ram Rebel TRX concept unveiled in 2016 never made it to the assembly line. However with generation change Ram pickup still got an extreme version to fight the “big” Raptor. The serial Ram 1500 TRX lost the “rebellious” Rebel attachment, but gained a more powerful motor.
Under the hood of the 2016 concept car, a 583-horsepower Hemi V8 6.2 engine was installed, and the new Ram 1500 TRX pickup received its seriously modified compressor modification, which produces 712 hp. and 881 Nm. For comparison, the Ford F-150 Raptor has a V6 3.5 turbo engine with “only” 456 hp. and 691 Nm. Just like on an SUV Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk, the motor is paired with an eight-speed “automatic” ZF. The frame of the standard Ram 1500 pickup had to be seriously strengthened, the transfer case was modified, the rear axle of the Dana 66 is equipped with an electronically controlled lock.
The suspension has been seriously modified for high-speed off-road races. Adaptive shock absorbers Bilstein Black Hawk e2 with a rod diameter of 64 mm and a remote reservoir are installed at the front and rear. Changed springs (they are at the front and rear of Rem). As a result, the suspension travel has increased by more than 40% compared to the basic version and now exceeds 330 mm. Although the ground clearance is increased by only 50 mm, up to 300 mm.
The engineers also increased the track by 15 cm for more confident movement at high speeds, and the total increase in body width was 20 cm – increased wheel arches and specially developed for this model Goodyear Wrangler Territory off-road tires of 325/65 R18 dimensions with an outer diameter 35 inches. The front has the largest brake discs in the segment with a diameter of 381 mm.
The Ram 1500 TRX pickup truck takes just 4.5 seconds to accelerate to 60 mph (97 km / h), and it accelerates to 100 mph (161 km / h) in 10.5 seconds. The maximum speed is 190 km / h. In addition, FCA marketers could not resist and even for the pickup brought their favorite parameter – the time of a quarter mile check: 12.9 s versus 11.6 s for the same Grand Cherokee Trackhawk. At the same time, the ford depth of the pickup truck is an impressive 813 mm, and the Ram 1500 TRX can also carry trailers weighing more than 3.6 tons, although the maximum carrying capacity is not so impressive – only 594 kg.
Of course, the designers could not fail to emphasize the character of the car with a special exterior design. Versions with a sports body kit, darkened headlights and a black radiator grille have been in the range of the current generation before, however, the TRX modification, in addition to increased wheel arches and ground clearance, can also be identified by the hood with a large functional air intake. Underbody protection is installed that covers the front axle, transfer case, fuel tank and transmission case.
The differences from the original pickup continue in the interior. The Ram 1500 TRX has a classic automatic lever in place of a washer, a trimmed rim steering wheel with aluminum gearshift paddles, upholstery with optional red stitching, and optional CFRP inserts. In addition, a launch control function has appeared for the most efficient start.
In the US, prices for the new Ram 1500 TRX start at $ 70,000 excluding shipping. The Ford F-150 Raptor is much cheaper, starting at $ 53,500. Acceptance of orders has already begun, the start of deliveries to customers is scheduled for the end of the year.
