From the January 1, 2023a standard included in the draft of the Budget Law raises the specific excise duty on cigarettes, which will result in a increase of about 20 cents a packet (depending on the different brands) for the first year is between 10 and 15 in the following three years.
The other novelty is that the increases do not only concern traditional cigarettes, but those as well electronic with the heated tobacco. In this case, however,
the increase is lower and is 8 cents per ml (milliliter) for those without nicotine and 13 cents for products with nicotine.
According to some government estimates, the whole operation would involve a grossing over 100 million euros a year for the state.
