Captain Dimitar Burlakov, a Bessarabian Bulgarian captured by Russian forces in Ukraine, has been released. The news was confirmed to bTV by his family. He is the brother of the former head of the Agency for Bulgarians Abroad Raina Mandjukova.
The military man of Bulgarian origin was exchanged for Russian prisoners and is now in a military hospital in Ukraine.
His family describes the incident as an “Easter miracle.”
Dimitar Burlakov survived after his MI-8 helicopter was shot down by a Russian missile near Mariupol, but was captured.
