Among the items to be auctioned are a crown, inspired by the one worn by British sovereigns during their coronation, and a faux fur and red velvet cape.

These two pieces are more than representative of the extravagant British artist Freddie Mercury, who wore them to sing “God save the queen” during his last tour with the group, “The magic tour”, in 1986. Its value is estimated between 60,000 and 80,000 British pounds (about 73,800 and 99,100 dollars).

Another important piece that will be available for sale are the nine pages of the lyrics of the song “We are the champions”, handwritten by the singer, one of the best known of the group. The price is estimated between 200,000 and 300,000 pounds (220,250 and 373,300 dollars).

A Freddie Mercury acoustic guitar will also be for sale. Like works by Picasso and Matisse that belonged to the singer, who died of AIDS in 1991.

These objects, which were in the former house of Freddie Mercury in the opulent neighborhood of Kensington, London, will be sold by Mary Austin, one of the artist’s closest friends and who was also his sentimental partner.

“For many years I have had the joy and privilege of living surrounded by all those wonderful things that Freddie sought out and loved so much. But the years have passed and the time has come to make the difficult decision to close this very special chapter of my life,” he told Sotheby’s auction house.

Sotheby’s estimates that the sale will reach at least 6 million pounds (more than 6.7 million euros). Proceeds will be donated in part to the Mercury Phoenix Trust and the Elton John Aids Foundation, two organizations committed to the fight against AIDS.
