Quarantine: PRO’s hard wing distances itself from Lar …

The conquered hard-wing unity with Vicentin did not last long, where all the positions of Together for Change against the Government seemed to have been unified. With the new phase of quarantine, which once again hardens the isolation before the increase of cases, again positions were divided. From the Civic Coalition, they demanded to the Buenosairean Government that it is the “last great effort” really. Although they took the opportunity to criticize the national government and the government of Buenos Aires, not even in the hardest sectors of the UCR and the PRO did they dare to say that a stricter phase of quarantine does not correspond. Yes they demanded more tests, especially in the Buenosairean territory.

The flag of June 20 had left the PRO hard wing in a state of effervescence, after a few days in which the “je suis Vicentin” had closed ranks among those who seek to have a less confrontational profile (such as Larreta, María Eugenia Vidal, Emilio Monzó) and those seeking to spur polarization, with former President Mauricio Macri at the helm and PRO president, Patricia Bullrich, as the executing arm. The former president even came out of his studied silence not to give explanations about illegal espionage but to wave a flag for Vicentin:

But with the Government’s decision to deactivate – for the time being – that focus of conflict and the new week, in which the agenda turned towards the new phase of quarantine, the so longed for unity of all against the Government that had obtained the hard wing of the PRO was liquefied. In fact, the first to blow it up was the president of the UCR, Alfredo Cornejo, who accused Larreta of be taken from the nose
by the national government. “Although (Larreta) is in that cultural cloud, he will have to take charge if he is in error,” said the former governor of Mendoza. From the City, they avoided answering him, but they think that he comes out with those statements because his province is not living the reality of AMBA with COVID-19. In addition, it is known: Larreta and Cornejo could end up competing for the presidency in 2023 and now sparks have been drawn.

Cornejo was not the only one to put pressure on Larreta. The PRO hard wing has been doing this since the beginning of the quarantine. And this was joined by businessmen who called him after the previous Friday, in a joint conference with Axel Kicillof, the head of government began to show that he was going to join the tightening of the quarantine. The businessmen raised the opposite idea to him: that it does not yield.

The truth is Larreta ended up delivering two of the flags that he did not want to lower: the runners –something more symbolic– and the 70,000 non-essential stores that will close again, which has very concrete consequences. Not only for the different sectors of the economy that are affected, but also for Buenos Aires revenue, which is declining (60 percent delinquency in Patents, 15 percent drop in Gross Income). Perhaps that is why, in meetings with President Alberto Fernández and with Kicillof, Larreta argued until the last moment against the “total closure” proposed by the Buenos Aires governor. But finally he had to give in, not entirely convinced.

And began to receive friendly fire. Cornejo was one of the first to fall for this decision, although he concentrated criticism on the national government and, for this time, he left it out: “After 100 days of quarantine, the announcement of the new extension in the metropolitan area is the expected fruit of the errors of the national government. These errors are paying dearly on multiple fronts and, unfortunately, will mark the next years of the country’s life, “said the head of the UCR, who – however – admitted:” In the AMBA, restricting again seems to be necessary. However, if the government does not recognize its error and changes, it will be insufficient. And without the complementary measures of testing, tracing and isolation, the result will be an eternal quarantine. “

Carrió with claims

Similar criticisms came out of the Civic Coalition, some of them aimed at the Larreta government, whom Elisa Carrió had defended against the first attacks of the PRO hard wing when the quarantine began. “We are concerned with the lack of testing and late and inefficient policies in the most affected places in the Province of Buenos Aires, “remarked from the Civic Coalition, which Maximiliano Ferraro, an unconditional supporter of Carrió, is driving today. “After 100 days of confinement we see that the Detect plan, as well as the isolation and prevention policies, are late and this affects the entire AMBA region in particular and the country in general,” they said in a statement signed by Ferraro and by Paula Oliveto, head of the Buenos Aires CC-ARI.

For Larreta, there were some subtle warnings, dressed in the clothing of support for the head of government: “The City of Buenos Aires has been working and making decisions with prudence, seriousness, data and evidence. In this sense, we ask the City authorities to make this a last great effort to allow us to schedule and guarantee an orderly definitive departure with very clear objectives of collective care ”. “It is not fair or sanitary strategic that the City has to tie its exit plan before the inefficiency in the application of public health and safety policies that we all observe in the management of the pandemic by Axel Kicillof”, they marked the field Larreta. It is a clear call to differentiate yourself from the Buenos Aires governor.

And they also returned to the economic line: “We must take care of the health of all Argentines but also take care of the economy. We must guarantee the right to work of our merchants and the labor continuity of companies and their workers. “In the statement, they also asked the Buenos Aires Government specifically to think about an” orderly and predictable exit that would contain the demands of a people who wants to take care of their health, work and build a future. It is time to go one step further. “They also considered that” we porteños have had to endure disqualifications and grievances in the midst of the pandemic, which shows a political use of this tragedy by part of Kirchnerism ”.

From the PRO hard wing, neither Bullrich nor anyone else has so far come out to talk about the new measures, although the former president continues to put the axis on the economic consequences. And in that the “Argentine exit” is not the best, as Federico Pinedo also stated:

Regarding the new phase, the former provisional president of the Senate told this newspaper: “I think it is a tragedy, but that there is no other remedy. Clearly, they have to test much more than they are testing, especially the province of Buenos Aires, because otherwise we will continue in eternal quarantine. ” “What the City has to do is do more than what it is already doing. And when the contagion rate of one falls, it will be able to open,” he interpreted.
