Putin Rewards Torture of Alexei Navalny: Boyarinev Promoted to Deputy Director of Russian Penitentiary Service

In Russia, Alexei Navalny, a Russian opposition leader who is called a personal enemy of dictator Vladimir Putin, recently died. And now the country has promoted to the rank of Deputy Director of the Federal Penitentiary Service of Russia Valery Boyarinev, whom human rights activists call the curator of torture of the oppositionist.

About it reports Bild. It is noted that Putin awarded Boyarinev after Navalny died in the Polar Wolf colony. According to the decree published on the official portal of legal information, he was awarded the rank of colonel general. The head of the Anti-Corruption Foundation, Ivan Zhdanov, believes that the promotion in rank is connected with the death of Navalny.

“We must understand this as Putin’s outright reward for torture. Boyarinev personally supervised the torture of Alexei Navalny in prison. Alexey’s restrictions on food bills, like all other tortures, were Boyarinev’s personal order from the FSIN,” Zhdanov said.

According to Navalny’s team, in April 2023, Boyarinev demanded to limit the policy of spending on food. In addition, the human rights project Gulagu.net reports that several hours before reports of the politician’s death appeared, the Polar Wolf colony was probably visited by employees of the Federal Security Service of the Russian Federation. Human rights activists claim that some of the CCTV cameras there were turned off and dismantled.

Navalny in the spotlight – news worth reading

On February 16, Alexei Navalny died in the Polar Wolf correctional colony, located in the Russian village of Kharp. The Federal Penitentiary Service of Russia said that the oppositionist allegedly suddenly became ill after a walk, and doctors were unable to save him – the politician “lost a blood clot.”

According to the resuscitator who treated Navalny, this diagnosis is “incompetent” – Alexander Polupanov was in a group of doctors who came from Moscow to the Omsk hospital after Navalny was poisoned in 2020. He argues that the detachment of a blood clot cannot be confirmed without appropriate studies. They refuse to hand over the body of Lyudmila Navalnaya (the politician’s mother), citing the need for a “chemical analysis.”
