The Flemish government had promised the festival an advance of 1.8 million euros, money that had to be repaid if the festival could not continue due to the corona crisis. That advance had not yet been paid at the end of July. Whether the festival would receive the money was not entirely certain at the end of July. Because the festival itself threw in the towel, it was not clear whether Pukkelpop would actually receive that money. The festival had to prove that it was the corona measures that made an organization impossible.
