PSV despondent of crisis: “I don’t want to look at the stand” | NOW

The 1-0 defeat at Ajax has arrived hard at PSV, which still has not won a match in 2020. The players of the Eindhoven club seem despondent of the series of bad results that never end.

“I don’t want to look at the stand”, says Sam Lammers, who played the first hour in the Johan Cruijff ArenA on Sunday. “We just have to watch the next game. We don’t have to talk about the score as a PSV.”

After 21 matches, the Eindhoven players are in fifth place in the Eredivisie, with four points behind number three Feyenoord and number four Willem II. “When I look at the stand, I am shocked,” says Nick Viergever. “PSV is rarely shown to be this low. It’s extreme.”

Ajax is therefore far out of sight for PSV, which has fourteen points less than the Eredivisie leader. The difference with AZ is eleven points. “The first two are gone,” Viergever concludes. “We should have turned the tide immediately after the winter break to still be able to look at those places. We didn’t succeed.”

“There is a lot of pressure on the team”

The most painful of PSV are the numbers in away games. The team of coach Ernest Faber and earlier Mark van Bommel has not won a final in the Eredivisie since September 29 and that has an impact on the team.

“The conviction is not there,” Lammers says. “Actually, I only saw some faith in the team at the end of the match against Ajax. Furthermore, there was a lack of confidence and therefore peace of mind. We worked hard, but when we play football it should be much better.”

Viergever also sees the struggle that PSV fought in the ArenA as a sparing light during the crisis. “It is not the dedication and willingness that matters. But there is a lot of pressure on our team and you can see that in possession of the ball. The field game is just very bad.”

PSV continues the Eredivisie next Saturday with a home game against Willem II. The duel in the Philips Stadium starts at 7:45 PM.
