PSC Recruitment Scam: Accused Surrenders as Police Uncover Fraud Scheme

Thiruvananthapuram ∙ Rajalakshmi, the first accused in the PSC recruitment scam case, surrendered to the police. Rajalakshmi surrendered at Kazhakootam station. Rajalakshmi’s assistant Joyce was arrested in the evening. Rajalakshmi surrendered after this.

It was found that the first accused R.Rajalakshmi in the case of cheating lakhs of rupees by forging a fake letter in the name of PSC and pretending to be a police officer. Rajalakshmi, a native of Adoor, disguised herself using a hired police uniform.

The police also said that Rajalakshmi had used pictures of her dressed as a police officer on social media to deceive candidates. The police got these pictures from the phone of the second accused, Rashmi, who surrendered at the Medical College police station the other day.

What investigators said about the fraud:

Rajalakshmi and Rashmi get to know each other through astrology and pooja. Rajalakshmi, who introduced herself as a senior civil police officer, showed Rashmi pictures of herself in uniform. Rajalakshmi promised that she was in contact with the PSC and the police headquarters and could get a government job to alleviate Rashmi’s financial difficulties.

Rajalakshmi initially demanded Rs 4 lakh as a bribe to officials. Later, if there are more people, half the amount is enough. As requested by Rajalakshmi, Rashmi canvassed the candidates through WhatsApp group and directly. 15 people paid money in WhatsApp group with 84 members. Officials said that Rashmi sent this amount to Rajalakshmi’s account. The police believe that Rajalakshmi has the stolen money.

Only 7 of the 15 victims of fraud gave a statement to the police. Their statement is that they took the money saying that they would buy the job without writing the PSC exam. Documents of online money transfer were also produced. Other candidates have switched off their mobile phones. The police said that Rs 35 lakh was extorted from the candidates by offering them jobs including non-existent posts in the vigilance, income tax and GST departments.
