From the end of next week, the plant will thus find a production volume approaching 2,000 vehicles per day.
–Determined to return to pre-crisis production levels, the car manufacturer PSA is accelerating in terms of hiring. The management of the Sochaux plant has announced the recruitment of a thousand temporary workers on its site by the end of next week. These arrivals should allow the site to return to production levels before the Covid-19 epidemic. To achieve this objective, the site will reconstitute a night shift next Monday on its assembly line of the Peugeot 3008 – one of the commercial successes of the firm -, the 5008 and the Opel Grandland X. an additional half-day shift for the manufacture of the 308, according to its spokesperson, quoted by AFP. By the end of next week, the plant will return to production volume approaching 2,000 vehicles per day.
The recruitment of these 1,000 temporary workers will be added to the 300 temporary workers already integrated since the resumption of work after the holidays on August 17. The number of temporary workers in Sochaux had fallen to zero in the midst of the health crisis.
With 7,300 permanent employees, this factory is the one that operates the most massive return of temporary workers among the group’s French sites. The one in Rennes (Ille-et-Vilaine) has been recruiting 500 temporary workers since mid-August to meet the demand for Citroën C5 Aircross.
In mid-June, when the French factories of PSA began to resume their activity, a controversy had erupted when the management had decided to bring in Hordain employees of a Polish factory of the group. After the intervention of the government, a compromise had been found and a majority of temporary workers recruited.
This good news on the employment front is the consequence of the strong recovery in car sales in France since deconfinement.
