TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – The technology giant Sony claims to have sold more than 10 million PlayStation 5 game consoles (PS5). That’s an increase of more than 2 million in sales from the 7.8 million Sony previously disclosed in April.
“Ini menjadikannya konsol dengan penjualan tercepat dalam sejarah Sony,” ujar President dan CEO Sony Interactive Entertainment, Jim Ryan, seperti dikutip dari The Verge, Rabu 28 Juli 2021.
PS5 mungkin laris manis, tapi pasokannya kini terbatas dan masih sulit untuk membeli konsol saat ini karena krisis chip global. Ryan menginginkan agar para gamer tahu bahwa Sony terus menghadapi tantangan unik di seluruh dunia yang mempengaruhi industri dan banyak lainnya. “Meningkatkan tingkat inventaris tetap menjadi prioritas utama kami.”
Sony juga telah mengumumkan capaian penjualan beberapa game yang dimainkan di PS5, seperti Spider-Man: Miles Morales. Game ini telah terjual lebih dari 6,5 juta kopi sejak diluncurkan pada November. Game Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart juga terjual lebih dari 1,1 juta kopi sejak diluncurkan bulan lalu. Game lainnya adalah Returnal yang telah terjual lebih dari 560 ribu eksemplar sejak peluncurannya April.
While Sony continues to share console hardware figures, Microsoft has stopped sharing Xbox sales figures in the Xbox One era. “We are all involved in the game,” said Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella quibble.
According to Nadella, the Xbox Series S and X are the company’s fastest-selling consoles. “More consoles were sold than the previous generation,” he said without elaborating on how many.
Daniel Ahmad, a senior analyst at Niko Partners, shared an estimate on Twitter that Xbox Series S and X totaled sales of 6.5 million units as of June 30, 2021. “That’s up from the previous estimate of 5.7 million for the Xbox One, and 5 million for the Xbox 360 in the same timeframe,” Ahmad tweeted.
