Protesters in Poland have announced a one-day strike / Article / LSM.lv

For almost a week now, there have been protests in Poland against the decision of the Constitutional Court that abortion due to an embryonic defect is illegal. Residents continue to protest on Wednesday, declaring a strike.

There have been several clashes with the police and attacks on churches during the protests. Therefore, clashes have also taken place with nationalists, who form groups to defend churches.

The comments of the leader of the ruling conservative party “Law and Justice” Yaroslav Kaczynski only intensified the protests, which also took place in the Polish parliament on Tuesday. Kaczynski has pointed out that the aim of the protests is to destroy the nation. He called on party members and supporters to protect the churches at all costs.

Protests involve people of different genders and professions, such as taxi drivers, farmers and miners. Dissatisfied residents promise to continue protests by declaring a one-day strike on October 28.

It is still difficult to judge its extent, but it is known that there are strikes, for example, teachers and students of several educational institutions. It is also known that there are many women among the participants in the strike, who continue to protest against the court decision on Wednesday.

According to a poll by the Polish newspaper Gazeta Wyborcza, 73% of Poles do not support the court’s decision, but more than 50% support the ongoing protests.

CONTEXT:

Polish constitutional the court has recognizedthat the current law, which allows abortion if the fetus is inevitably damaged, is unconstitutional. Representatives of the Polish Constitutional Tribunal pointed out that this condition violated the protection of every person’s life guaranteed by the Constitution. The ruling conservative Law and Justice Party has already expressed support for this position in the past, and following the 2016 reforms, the Polish Constitutional Tribunal has a large number of judges sympathetic to the ruling party.
