14 teams play for two promotion places until mid-June. Since the promotion round has been classified as a professional sport, the general hygiene and corona test rules that apply to the Bundesliga and the second division will definitely be played.
No guest performances in Rheinkamp without spectators
“I’m not angry about the division, the northern group is obviously to be assessed more strongly,” says Simon Krivec. The pharmacist from Moers is known to be CEO of the HSG and one of the drivers for the Krefeld region to win new fans and sponsors on the Lower Rhine. Planned guest performances in the Rheinkamper Enni-Sportzentrum are canceled for the time being because no spectators are allowed to attend the games.
The HSG has to deal with some prominent opponents in their group stage. VfL Pfullingen, for example, has already been involved in the Bundesliga. The same applies to TV Willstätt, which was active from 1999 to 2003 as SG Willstätt-Schutterwald in the highest league. The Hanauerlandhalle is next to the Krefeld Glockenspitzhalle with a good 2600 seats, by the way, also the largest hall of the south group.
Handball Bundesliga: Steinheim fails at OSC Rheinhausen
With TSB Heilbronn-Horkheim (1993/94 season) and TuS 04 Dansenberg from Kaiserslautern (1983/84 and from 1991 to 1993) two teams were already active in the second division. The predecessor club of HSG Hanau, the Steinheim gymnastics club, played in the Bundesliga in the 1974/75 season, but was relegated after the playoffs against OSC Rheinhausen after only one season.
“The group is not a sure-fire success for us. But the goal still has to be first or second place, ”says Simon Krivec – also with a view of the northern group. With top favorite Eintracht Hagen, who should raise a budget of over one million euros, and HC Empor Rostock are two calibers at the start. The HSG would prefer to avoid both of them in the second round, where the best four in each group meet in the first and second legs. For comparison: The Krefelders are currently calculating around 450,000 euros.
In the event of an ascent, the budget could increase slightly. Talks with the donors are currently ongoing. “A foundation for league two and three is already in place,” emphasizes Simon Krivec. By the end of March, the HSG has to back up its license application to the German Handball Federation (DHB) with meaningful financial figures.
