Krefeld (AP) – A 55-year-old man from Berlin was caught with 50 kilograms of heroin, built into the top of his convertible, on the way back from the Netherlands. Since Tuesday he has had to answer for drug smuggling on a large scale at the Krefeld district court.
The heroin, with a street sales value of almost three million euros, was discovered during an inspection. The man had claimed from the police that he had bought the car cheaply shortly beforehand. He didn’t know anything about the drugs in the folding top.
If convicted, the accused will face several years in prison. On Tuesday only the charges were read out. The trial will continue on March 8th – then the defendant’s defense counsel from Berlin will also be there.
Just last Friday a truck driver in Mönchengladbach was sentenced to seven and a half years in prison for smuggling 21 kilograms of cocaine and heroin.
