“With the introduction of the new tariff system, the procedure for calculating train ticket prices will be made more understandable for passengers, significantly simplifying movement within the zones. For example, from now on, to go from Babīte to Jugla station, you will only have to pay for the trip from Babīte to Riga central station, while the trip from central station to Jugla will be free of charge,” explained Raitis Nešpors, acting chairman of the board of JSC “Pasažieru vilciens”, in addition stating that the new tariff system will facilitate the adjustment of train and bus transportation, while strengthening the train as the backbone of public transport in the public transport system.

The aim of the new fares is to encourage people to transfer to public transport, so from the middle of this year a new ticket, Train+, will be introduced, with which passengers will be able to take short bus journeys to or from the train station for minimal or no extra charge. On the other hand, by simplifying the ticket system, from April 1, two-way tickets and group tickets will no longer be available, but day and subscription (monthly, working days of the month, for one or both directions) tickets will be converted into time tickets (1, 3, 5 and 30 days) . Also, with the introduction of the new tariff system, the 20% discount for tickets on certain flights on weekdays will no longer be available. The surcharge for buying a ticket at the conductor’s controller, if the ticket office is open at the station, will be 1.00 euros instead of the previous 0.50 euros.

In the future, a 100% ticket discount will also be provided for less protected groups of society – preschool children, orphaned children, disabled children and their companions, disabled people of group I and their companions, disabled people of group II, politically repressed persons and members of the national resistance movement. Driving fee concessions in the amount of 40%, 50% and 90% will also be available to drivers with Latvian Honor Family cards “3+ Family Card” and “Honor Family”. JSC “Pasažieru vilciens” informs that after the entry into force of the new tariffs, passengers will still be able to use the tickets (until the end of their validity) purchased up to and including March 31 of this year.

When introducing the new tariff system, it is also necessary to adjust and check the carrier’s IT system, which usually takes some time, therefore AS “Pasažieru vilciens” invites people to be tolerant in situations where there will be some short-term deficiencies in the operation of the IT system.
