From the National Confederation of Land Freight Transportation (Cntc) they announced that they could start a mobilization from Thursday at 00:00. During a press point, the entity’s president, Sergio Pérez, pointed out that “truckers have been constantly attacked, but we cannot continue to accept this degree of defenselessness.” The representative of the Cntc pointed out that they are clear about the importance of trucks for supplying the country “especially because we are in a pandemic.”
The mobilization would begin this Thursday
However, he added that this is not a reason to continue to endure situations of aggression. In her speech, she recalled cases like the girl who was shot this weekend. “We don’t want more cases of girls like Monserrat, or like the case of Juan Barrios who died after his truck was set on fire.”
To avoid mobilizing, the union is requesting that Congress advance 13 laws that, according to Pérez, “are sleeping, most of them, in Congress.” If they do not see any sign of the advancement of these laws, the mobilization would begin on Thursday.
What are these laws?
In a conversation exclusive with Publimetro, the representative of the confederation that groups together all the truckers’ federations from north to south, detailed which are these bills:
- Modernization Law of the Carabineros de Chile and Investigative Police
- Intelligence system modernization law
- Law that modifies the Penal Code to allow the use of special techniques related to terrorist conduct
- Law that introduces improvements in the prosecution of drug trafficking
- Law that strengthens the control and prosecution of the crimes of robbery and theft of wood
- Project that regulates the state of alert to prevent damage to critical infrastructure
- Modification of the gun control law
- Police specialization law
- The so-called “anti-hooded law”
- That establishes a statute of protection for Police, PDI and Gendarmerie
- Modification to the Penal Code to increase the penalties for usurpation of real estate and real rights
- Law of total reparation for victims of crimes of rural violence, as established in the report of the Presidential Advisory Board. Led by Bishop Vargas.

They recently had meetings with the authorities in La Moneda. There was talk of progress in the dialogue. However, now we come to this point. What happened?
– The truth is that we had a meeting with the Executive on Monday. And then on Wednesday. We finished on Wednesday afternoon with the president of the Senate. The next day, we accompanied the President and two ministers to the launch of the “Juan Barrios Law.” And therefore, what we asked was that the parliament pass these laws that I have already described to you above.
Uncertainty
Asked about the mobilization, the truckers’ union did not confirm whether it would be indefinite or not. Sergio Pérez only limited himself to pointing out that “being with the supply chain stopped, in the middle of the pandemic, we know that it is complex.” He added repeatedly that, despite that, they are not willing to continue being exposed to acts of violence.
