President Jokowi Returns to Jakarta After ASEAN-Australia Summit

President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) arrived in Indonesia after attending the ASEAN-Australia Summit in Melbourne. Jokowi was in Australia for 3 days.

Quoted from the Presidential Secretariat Bureau, Jokowi and a limited entourage arrived at Halim Perdanakusuma TNI AU Base, Jakarta, Wednesday (6/3/2024) at around 19.00 WIB.

Below the stairs of the plane, those seen welcoming Jokowi’s arrival were TNI Commander General Agus Subiyanto, National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo, and Acting Governor of DKI Jakarta Heru Budi Hartono.

Meanwhile, Jokowi left for Australia on Monday (4/3) morning. Jokowi was accompanied by State Secretary Pratikno and PUPR Minister Basuki Hadimuljono.

There, Jokowi held a bilateral meeting with 3 Prime Ministers (PM) on Tuesday (5/3), namely Cambodian PM Hun Manet, New Zealand PM Christopher Luxon, and Australian PM Anthony Albanese.

Jokowi then attended the ASEAN-Australia Summit at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Center (MCEC), Melbourne, Australia, in the evening. Jokowi emphasized the importance of cooperation between ASEAN and Australia. This is to commemorate 50 years of partnership relations.

Jokowi conveyed this in the plenary session of the ASEAN-Australia Special Summit at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Center, Melbourne, Australia. Jokowi said ASEAN and Australia share a common responsibility to maintain stability, peace and prosperity in the region.

“As the oldest dialogue partner, strategic comprehensive partner and liaison partner with the Pacific region, ASEAN and Australia share a region where stability, peace and prosperity are our shared goals and responsibilities,” said Jokowi.

Jokowi predicts that ASEAN will become a global economic power and be ranked fourth in the world by 2040. With a population of more than 650 million people, most of whom are young workers with high technological literacy, Jokowi emphasized the importance of Australia’s support to maximize this potential.
