Population – Bad Ems – Number of inhabitants in Rhineland-Palatinate increased again – Society

Bad Ems (dpa / lrs) – For the eighth time in succession, the number of Rhineland-Palatinate has increased. At the end of last year, around 4 093 300 people lived in the state, as the State Statistical Office announced in Bad Ems on Monday. A total of around 8,500 new residents were added compared to the previous year. This was a new record number. According to the statisticians, the data are still preliminary.

The reason for the increased population: “Once again, significantly more people moved to Rhineland-Palatinate than the country.” The difference is an estimated 20,000 people. At the same time, over 10,000 Rhineland-Palatinate died more than were born.

In the past year, the population in urban districts tended to grow faster than in rural districts. In the cities there were an estimated 5.9 percent or around 60 100 more inhabitants. “With Ludwigshafen and Mainz, two cities on the Rhine posted the highest gains.” There the increase was 9.3 and 9.1 percent.

In the counties, statisticians recorded gains in 15 cases and a smaller population in nine cases. The counties would have grown by a total of 1.5 percent or 43,400 people. For example, more people would have lived in the Rhein-Pfalz-Kreis (5.3 percent) and fewer in the Südwestpfalz (minus 3.6 percent).
