Police Who Reject Reports of Robbery Victims in East Jakarta Examined by Propam

A woman with the initials KM became a victim robbery on Jalan Sunan Sedayu, East Jakarta (East Jakarta). The victim admitted that he wanted to report the incident to the nearest police station, but the police refused the report.

Now, the police officers who reject the report are being investigated by Propam. This was revealed by the East Jakarta Police Chief, Kombes Erwin Kurniawan.

“Examined by Propam Polres East Jakarta,” said Erwin when confirmed, Sunday (12/12/2021).

Erwin said that the police officer was being withdrawn to the East Jakarta Police for training.

To note, a video of a woman being a victim of a robbery after taking money from an automated teller machine (ATM) has gone viral on social media. The video includes a narration of the chronology of the incident and the victim’s confession which the police refused when they wanted to make a report.

The video was posted by the victim on his Instagram account. The victim explained that the robbery against him occurred on Jalan Sunan Sedayu, East Jakarta, on Tuesday (7/12) yesterday after the victim took money from an ATM at around 18.45 WIB. The victim was a car driver.

In addition, the post included CCTV footage at the time the theft took place. The victim suspects that the perpetrator is a gang.

The victim was followed by 2 motorbikes, then one of the perpetrators approached the victim and knocked on his car window while conveying something. At that time, the victim got down to see the condition of his car in the back.

Then, when he stopped, the perpetrator took the bag in the back seat through the left car door. After the robbery incident, the victim said he had reported to the police station around Rawamangun.

“When I was questioned by the police, he actually advised me to go home to calm down, and it’s useless if you want to be searched too,” he wrote in the post.

The victim actually felt that he was reprimanded by the police for taking large amounts of cash at an ATM. The victim said the police spoke in a high tone.

“After that, the police actually scolded me, ‘What are you doing with so many ATMs, if this is a problem. Moreover, there are lots of admin fees, too, in a high-pitched voice,’ he continued.
