The moment Thierry Baudet arrives at Ghent University for a lecture, an unknown man hits him on the head with a folding umbrella. “The perpetrator started shouting in Ukrainian and hit Baudet with a folding umbrella,” says colleague Ward Schouppe who saw the incident. He also shouted “no to fascism, no to Putinism.”
The man was then tackled to the ground by the police present. “He was immediately put in a police car. Baudet was brought in by a security employee.” It is not clear whether Baudet was injured in the attack. The perpetrator has been arrested by the police.
Baudet’s lecture was still able to go ahead and started just after 8 p.m. in an auditorium of Ghent University with an audience of about 300 people. Dries Van Langenhove is also present.
