Against the background of three reported gatherings, the Leipzig Police Department will carry out a mission to ensure public safety and order this coming weekend, with a focus on Saturday. For this purpose, emergency services from other federal states were requested extensively via the Saxon State Ministry of the Interior. The police in Leipzig is currently supported by police officers from the federal riot police as well as from Saxony-Anhalt, Berlin, Hesse, Brandenburg, Bavaria, Thuringia, Schleswig-Holstein, Rhineland-Palatinate and the Saxon riot police.
The population is asked to prepare for any traffic disruptions in the city area, as in connection with the displayed demonstration routes and the relocation of emergency services necessary during the course of the mission, it may be necessary to block individual, but also public, passenger and local transport.
For the three indicated meetings, at which a number of participants in the four-digit range of the left or left-wing extremist spectrum must be assumed, will be mobilized nationwide. In the period from 4:00 p.m. to around 9:00 p.m., the applicants initially intend to go to three different locations – in the area of Leipzig’s Augustusplatz in the center, Karl-Heine-Straße in the west of Leipzig and the Lene-Voigt- Parks in the east of Leipzig – to start and then to unite in the south of Leipzig and to hold the final rally in the Connewitz district in the evening.
In addition to the riot police, communication teams, loudspeaker trucks and special technology such as water cannons are available to the operations management team. Due to the spatial dimension of the indicated meetings, helicopters will be present in the Leipzig airspace to support the complex police operation.
