Police Raid Uncovers Illegal Weapons ‘Warehouse’ in Medellín Apartment

Information that warned about the existence of a weapons ‘warehouse’ in an apartment in El Poblado, southeast of Medellín, allowed the authorities to begin an extensive investigation that gave results this week.

Units from the Criminal Investigation Section of the Aburrá Valley Metropolitan Police identified the site and carried out a raid that allowed them to find a powerful arsenal of weapons that belonged to a veterinarian.

According to the Metropolitan Police of the Aburrá Valley, 25 firearms were found at the site, without permits or safe conduct, which were stored illegally. The stated owner of the weapon was unable to provide an answer regarding its origin and destination.

At the site, 13 shotgun-type firearms, 8 pistol-type firearms, revolver-type firearms, 632 cartridges, 8 suppliers and other accessories from the powerful arsenal were found.

A veterinarian was captured as responsible for having the weapons.

Despite the hard blow against arms trafficking, so far the authorities have not been able to establish where they came from or why the man had the strong weapons in his residence.

Likewise, the investigation continues in the crime laboratories of the Metropolitan Police and the Attorney General’s Office to detect if any of these weapons were used in a homicide case in Medellín and the Aburrá Valley.

There were shotguns, revolvers, pistols, cartridges and accessories.

“There are 25 weapons that could have been used or may be used in the future in criminal acts against any crime and, above all, that affects life. That is the articulated teamwork that is done with the institutions,” highlighted José Acevedo, Secretary of Security and Coexistence of Medellín.

The captured person must face charges for the crime of manufacturing, trafficking, carrying or possession of firearms, accessories, parts and ammunition. A guarantee control judge issued him a restraining order in a prison.

So far this year, the Metropolitan Police has seized 734 firearms in the 10 municipalities of the Aburrá Valley.
