PARIS (Reuters) – A police operation was underway on Friday morning in the Grésilles district of Dijon (Côte-d’Or), a recent scene of violence linked to a settling of scores between residents and members of the Chechen community, announced the prefecture.

“Following the events of the past few days in the Dijon conurbation, we inform you that a police operation is currently underway in the Grésilles district in Dijon and in Chenôve,” she said on Twitter.

According to a police source, some 150 police officers are mobilized to search the common areas and the cellars, looking in particular for weapons, real and fake, exhibited on Monday by young masked young residents of the neighborhood, who said they were ready to do battle with members of the Chechen community.

Between 100 and 150 heavily armed Chechens, from France and abroad, burst into the city of Burgundy last weekend after the assault of one of their own, a young man of 16 years of age. Several residents were injured during this settlement.

Young residents responded Monday evening with a show of force, by displaying weapons, according to videos which circulated on social networks, before clashes with the police.

An investigation into the flagrancy of the heads, in particular of attempted murder in an organized gang, degradation in a meeting, aggravated violence, association of criminals and participation in an armed group was opened by the Dijon public prosecutor’s office.

As part of this investigation, six people were taken into police custody and searches were carried out in several cities in France. Thursday morning, two people had been exonerated and the other four police custody had been extended according to the prosecution.
