Ligue 2 Football: Tension Escalates between Chamois Niortais and Niort Urban Area over Towel Dispute

The director of the Chamois Niortais, Mikaël Hanouna, and the mayor of Niort, Jérôme Baloge, oppose in the media around the future of the football club.

“If you have to play elsewhere, it’s not a problem”, warns the general manager of the Chamois Niortais, Mikaël Hanouna, at the microphone of France Bleu. I received the green light from the LFP to canvass other cities that would be ready to welcome us.

Later, in the evening, the mayor Jérôme Baloge speaks at the end of the municipal council: “Each Niortais will be able to show discernment in the flow of everything that circulates”slipped the city councilor, according to the Courrier de l’Ouest, before concluding: “If someone has to leave, it’s not the academy, or this or that player, it’s happening at another level.”

The tension suddenly rose a notch between the club and the Niort agglomeration, after the press conference convened by the general manager of the Chamois, Mikaël Hanouna.

The club leader complained to journalists that he had not received the annual grant of 200,000 euros, supposedly dedicated to the sports association Chamois Niortais FC. Only a deposit of 60,000 euros has so far been disbursed by the municipality.

Mikaël Hanouna assured that, if the expected subsidy was not paid to him quickly, the club would be forced to proceed with a social plan and the closure of the training center.

In addition, the general manager of the Chamois assured that the René-Gaillard stadium will “lose registration by April 30”. Statements brushed aside by the mayor of Niort: “The work should start this week. The René-Gaillard stadium is a stadium made for Ligue 2, and it remains so. I don’t want to add more.”

Contacted, the agglomeration of Niort did not wish to answer our questions, referring us to the speech of Jérôme Baloge yesterday.
