Disney stays the course with Pirates of the Caribbean. If the last opus in date was far from being unanimous, the firm is not ready to abandon the saga so far. On the sidelines of the reboot for women, written by Ted Elliott and Craig Mazin, Disney plans, in addition, another film according to The Hollywood Reporter. To hoist the mainsail and embody the main character, the studios rely on an actress well known to DC fans: Margot Robbie. The one who lends her features to Harley Quinn will obviously camp a new original character. According to the American media, it will not be another reboot, but a new film with a new plot. For now, the project is still very secret and it is impossible to know what sauce the saga will be eaten. We do know, however, that the writing was entrusted to Christina Hodson. The screenwriter notably worked on Birds of Prey and Bumblebee. She is currently working on the film by Andy Muschietti, The Flash. Jerry Bruckheimer, historical producer of the saga, will also be there.

Inspired by Disneyland’s eponymous attraction, the saga Pirates of the Caribbean has experienced some eddies. After four successful opuses, she had struggled to stay afloat in her last chapter. Released in May 2017, Pirates of the Caribbean and Revenge of Salazar had only reported $ 794.9 million at the box office. It is much less than the previous films and in particular The fountain of Youth. Rob Marshall’s film, with Johnny Depp and Penelope Cruz in the title roles, had raised $ 1.046 billion in 2011. Since that failure, Disney no longer seems to bet on Johnny Depp and his character to bring the saga to life. The name of the actor is not, for the moment, mentioned in any of the two projects of the firm. Questioned by the Daily Mail in 2018, the scriptwriter of the first opus explained about him: “I think it has had its day. Of course, he appropriated the character and he is the one who made him the most famous. I think Jack Sparrow is his legacy. ” It remains to be seen now whether fans will be there when these two new projects are released. On Twitter, the reactions are rather mixed, but we will give Disney the opportunity to surprise us.
