A video document a few minutes after the collapse of the building on Neorion Street in Pasalimani in Piraeus, which claimed the life of the 31-year-old police officer, came to light recording the dramatic moments that prevailed at the scene.

In the STAR video, the anxious movements of the first firefighters who tried to the scene are depicted.

Eyewitnesses told firefighters that a man jumped into the truck to save himself. This was the young policeman. Then, one climbed into the truck, as did his colleagues, while men and women of EKAV ran to give first aid to the rest of the injured.

A few minutes later, the EMAK men found Agathangelos inside the truck and with a drill they tried to break the cement to free him, but it was too late.

The contractor was arrested

The authorities are conducting investigations to establish the reasons why part of the two-story building, built in 1958, collapsed. Specifically, the investigations are focused on the type of work that preceded the collapse and what provision was made for the safety of the workers.

At the same time, EL.AS. proceeded to arrest the contractor who had undertaken the maintenance work, as well as eight other people, three of whom are hospitalized.

In particular, the contractor was brought in with six other people, who testified to the authorities about the accident.

Two jobs with a dream to buy his own house

The 31-year-old police officer was working two jobs as he had set his sights on buying a studio apartment in Athens so he wouldn’t have to pay any more rent, but his fate played a tragic game on Tuesday morning (16/4) in Pasalimani.
