Russian artist Piotr Pavlenski, who claims to be behind the publication of intimate videos attributed to Benjamin Griveaux, was arrested this Saturday afternoon in Paris, according to a source close to the investigation at BFMTV. He was wanted by the police since January 2 for “degradation in gang organized by dangerous means”. He was therefore not arrested because of the Griveaux case. The latter simply allowed the police to be more vigilant.
“It goes too far”
It was through a hitherto unknown website that the man presented videos and intimate exchanges which were allegedly sent by Benjamin Griveaux. So far, these videos are neither authenticated nor denied. But they pushed the candidate for mayor of Paris to withdraw his candidacy Friday morning. Pyotr Pavlenski did not specify how he was able to obtain such documents.
“I am not ready to expose ourselves further, my family and I, when all shots are now allowed, it goes too far. This is why I decided to withdraw my candidacy for the Parisian municipal election”, a declared the now ex-candidate LaREM at the microphone of BFM Paris, explaining that this decision “costs him” but wishing to give priority to his family.
