Darmstadt (ots) – A thief who stole an e-bike in front of a bike shop in Heidelberger Straße on Tuesday evening (19 May) did not get very far. Thanks to the rapid notification of the police by the witnesses, combined with a good description of the perpetrator and his direction of escape, the officers arrested the refugees after only 5 minutes.
At around 6:00 p.m., the owner of a green-black pedelec had left his bike unlocked in front of the shop and entered the shop for a short moment. The 32-year-old suspect took advantage of this brief moment of carelessness and grabbed the bike. However, because the owner had removed the on-board computer as a precaution, progress on the two-wheeler was very slow. Employees of the shop and the owner followed the thief and at the same time informed the police. Thanks to this quick reaction, the handcuffs clicked on Ludwigshöhstraße and the pedelec could still be handed over to its owner on the spot. The suspect was brought to the guard, where he was released after the ad was filed. Now he will have to face criminal charges.
