Paris Saint-Germain vs OGC Nice Match Postponed: Coupe de France Scheduling Controversy Explained

On the evening of Thursday February 29, all the teams qualified for the semi-finals of the Coupe de France will not know their opponent. Only three of the four quarter-finals will then have been played: the semi-finalist who will inherit the winner of the Paris Saint-Germain – OGC Nice match will have to wait until March 13, a two-week wait.

Ligue 1, Champions League and Nations League

The reasons for this later programming are multiple. On paper, Paris Saint-Germain could not play on Tuesday 27, like Olympique Lyonnais and Strasbourg. The space of two full days of rest would not have been respected after the match against Stade Rennais (1-1), organized on Sunday due to the presence of the Bretons in the Europa League the previous Thursday.

The Parisians could not play their quarter-final on Thursday, like Le Puy-en-Velay and Rennes, due to the same compulsory rest. The return deadline against Real Sociedad in the Champions League being set (for a long time) for Tuesday March 5, the Ligue 1 match against AS Monaco was to be held the previous Saturday, at the earliest (finally on Friday 1st of March).

There remained the possibility of a match on Wednesday February 28. But France Televisionsco-broadcaster and holder of first choice in the programming, quickly decided: it is impossible to position this clash between teams at the top of the Ligue 1 table at the same time as a meeting of the French women’s team in the League of Nations.

“Preserve the visibility of the French women’s team and the Coupe de France”

“This tailor-made program aims to preserve both the competitiveness of French clubs on the European scene as well as the visibility of the French women’s team and the Coupe de France, indicates on its website the French Football Federation, organizer of the oldest football competitions. The PSG – OGC Nice match was thus postponed to the first free interval of the Parisian calendar in the middle of the week, namely Wednesday March 13.

The Blues, who will face Spain in the final after their victory against Germany on Friday (2-1), will finally play at 7 p.m. on Wednesday. A decision by the Spanish Federation to attract as many people as possible to the stadium. Consequence: Rouen – Valenciennes, another Coupe de France quarter-final, will be played at 9 p.m. A strange mess.
