Paid football and GP Zandvoort are not covered by the government guarantee fund | NOW

The clubs from professional football and the Grand Prix of Zandvoort are not eligible for financial support from the guarantee scheme that the government has Friday set up. These are large-scale ‘individual’ events with a lengthy preparation time, emphasized the Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sport (VWS).

To be eligible for the guarantee scheme (a total of 385 million euros), an event must have already taken place at least twice in the Netherlands. Cancellation insurance must be taken out for the two most recent editions. This does not apply to professional football and the Formula 1 race.

“This arrangement is mainly for events that are 100 percent dependent on the public, such as festivals,” explains a spokesperson for the KNVB. “We hope to be able to play in the stadiums with a limited audience much sooner because of all the possibilities we have.”

The Zandvoort Grand Prix, which was canceled last year, is also excluded from the scheme because the race has not been organized in recent years.

The GP is scheduled for September 5 this year. “We are preparing for a major public event. That was the case and it will remain so. Without an audience is not an option for us. Our date seems quite favorable. Even though we are not covered by the scheme, it is positive news,” said one. spokesman for the GP.

The Zandvoort Grand Prix will be held on 5 September.

Cabinet is setting aside 385 million euros

The caretaker cabinet is setting aside 385 million euros for the guarantee scheme, which applies to the period between 1 July and 31 December. In many cases, the costs were covered by cancellation insurance, but insurers have now scrapped that option.

The cabinet has therefore set up a scheme to cover the financial risks for organizers in the event that a planned event is canceled. An event that can make use of the scheme is, for example, the Rotterdam Marathon, which was canceled last year and has already been moved from April to the end of October for this year.
