Ozone warning service: information threshold exceeded | PID press

Report from August 21, 2023 at 5 p.m

Vienna (OTS) Ozone concentrations greater than 180 µg/m³ as a one-hour average were measured at the measuring points Hermannskogel, Liesing-Gewerbegebiet and Klosterneuburg in the ozone monitoring area 1 north-eastern Austria. The information threshold according to the Ozone Act was thus exceeded.

It is to be expected that the ozone concentrations will remain similarly high over the course of today’s day and that the information threshold will continue to be exceeded.

Recommendations on voluntary behavior

Ozone concentrations above the information threshold can cause minor impairments in individuals who are particularly sensitive and who are subjected to increased physical exertion. Normal time spent outdoors, eg going for a walk, swimming or having a picnic, is harmless even for sensitive people. They should inform themselves in particular about the further course of the ozone concentration in the occupied area. Further individual protective measures are only required if the alarm threshold is exceeded.

Due to the increased ozone pollution, the Vienna Environmental Protection Department requests that you refrain from driving that is not absolutely necessary and use public transport.

Detailed information about the current level of pollution at the individual measuring points is available on the Internet on the website of the Federal Environment Agency at www.umweltbundesamt.at/ozon-aktuell#O3_1 and available in ORF Teletext on page 621.
