Overweight Man Denied Hospital Treatment: Sent to Zoo Instead – Jason Holton’s Story

Jakarta

An obese man in the UK tells his story of suspected blood clots. Instead of taking him to hospital, the doctors who treated him considered sending him to the zoo. All because his body weight is too big.

This man is Jason Holton, who weighs 298 kg. He was told that the only machine capable of holding his large body while his heart and lungs were examined was one used by veterinarians.

“My body swelled like the ‘Nutty Professor’,” he was quoted as saying The SunMonday (9/10/2023).

The Nutty Professor itself is a 1996 film, which tells the story of an morbidly obese man creating an instant slimming potion. However, the potion made his body grow bigger.

The medical staff who treated Jason suspected that he had blood clots and that his internal organs were almost damaged. In an interview, he said he almost died because his body was getting bigger.

“I almost died and was sure I was going to die,” said the 33-year-old.

“Treatment with injections was the only option left for me, so had to try it. I couldn’t stay in bed forever. I can’t remember the last time I walked, it was so bad,” he explained.

Jason struggled with obesity in his late teens, when he became addicted to fast food. In October 2020, he suddenly made headlines in England when his organs began to fail.

To evacuate him, Jason had to be pulled from his mother’s two-bedroom flat in Camberley, Surrey, involving 30 firefighters.

His condition got worse last January when he experienced serious health problems. In July, he suffered a series of minor heart attacks.

It is known that Jason also smokes more than 30 cigarettes and drinks 2.5 liters of fruit juice plus five cans of sugar-free fizzy drinks every day.

He spent two months in Frimley Park Hospital, where he had to be transported via a specially adapted ambulance. It was decided by the NHS that he would be transferred to a private nursing home in London.

“I feel like a prisoner in a nursing home. I have no freedom, I am their prisoner,” explained Jason.

“If I wanted to smoke, I had to leave the house, and that was impossible. I asked for water instead and they often refused to give it to me.”

After being hospitalized for 2 months, Jason was well enough to return home in March. But he refused to return to the nursing home.
