Overnight Telegram Gains 70 Million Users

Facebook’s so-called “Black Monday” continues to reap the havoc it has wrought, arguably one of the most complex events in the history of Mark Zuckerberg’s platform. As it has already been reported in all specialized and non-specialized media, on Monday, for more than six hours, WhatsApp, Facebook and Instagram experienced an extremely serious blackout, one of the worst crashes of their system in years.

Following this worldwide failure of the three services of the internet giant which prevented more than 3,500 million users worldwide from accessing its online services, and thanks to the emergence of new digital tools and platforms, users began to find various alternatives to allow them to continue communicating.

So let’s talk about WhatsApp, one of the social networks that has suffered the ravages of the failure of the Facebook system. The instant messaging application, the most used by Internet users, with more than two billion users worldwide, has been replaced by one of its main competitors: Telegram.

Thus, more than 70 million users have joined the Telegram secure messaging system, its Russian founder, Pavel Durov, said on Tuesday, October 5. To date, despite having experienced significant growth, Telegram is far from battling WhatsApp with its more than two billion users.

However, the Facebook outage has been of great benefit to Telegram as, as reported, the platform saw a record number of new users just as WhatsApp and Messenger stopped working. In a statement, Pavel Durov acknowledged on Tuesday that, thanks to the fall of Facebook, the platform now has new members in its community.

“I am proud of our team who have managed this unprecedented growth as Telegram has continued to operate smoothly for the bulk of our users,” said Durov, adding that “Telegram’s daily growth rate has exceeded the an order of magnitude standard, with over 70 million refugees from other platforms in one day ”.

The Facebook blackout has been by far one of the most complex and catastrophic events in the history of social media and, without a doubt, what is clear is the fact that more options are needed. for users, since Facebook monopolizes the market with the three most powerful social networks on the planet.
