Outer Range S01E01-02: Josh Brolin in Bizarre Neo-Western Mystery

Serial Outer Range Set in rural Wyoming, it revolves around family, bull riding, land rights and a mysterious black hole. Combining family drama, western, supernatural mystery and sci-fi, the series has a beautiful aesthetic with the immense green landscapes of Wyoming. But, above all, it is very bizarre and the scenes in the dark could have been filmed more visibly.

Josh Brolin (Dune, Avengers: Endgame) gives shape to the little-talking ranch owner and rancher Royal Abbott. While searching for a runaway cow, he discovers a perfectly round, bottomless hole with a layer of stardust on his pasture. Of course he puts his hand in it and then he sees flashes of the near future.

Unlike his wife Cecilia (Lili Taylor), Royal is skeptical about the faith. Cecilia drags her husband, her two adult sons, and her granddaughter to church every Sunday. Their son Perry’s wife (Tom Pelphry, Ozark) has been missing for nine months and the search is being called off by the authorities. Their other son Rhett (Lewis Pullman) drinks a lot of alcohol and aspires to become a bull rider.

The Abbott family has a longstanding feud with their neighbours, the Tillerson family. Patriarch Wayne Tillerson (Will Patton) has his sights set on a patch of western Abbotts pasture. And that is precisely the part where the mysterious black hole is located. To further add to the mystery, a young woman (Imogen Poots) wanders the Abbott ranch, whose exact plan is unknown. She thinks the Greek god Kronos has something to do with the hole.
