Graffiti against bullying in El Poblao

The San Francisco de Villena neighborhood, better known as El Poblao, has been filled with color these days to sensitize minors against bullying. All subjects are important in any educational center, but harmony, respect and tolerance have become a pending subject in classrooms. For this reason, the director of the El Poblao school, the public center for early childhood education Santa Teresa, has organized a conference to analyze, prevent and combat bullying. “The idea was to carry out a striking dynamic for the students in order to motivate and incentivize them about the benefits of getting along with each other,” said the director, Bartolomé Úbeda Fernández.

This “striking dynamic” has been achieved with the presence at the Seth Vañó school, alias “Dolar One”, one of the pioneers of graffiti in the province of Alicante. He has been the guest to share his story of overcoming. Vañó spoke to children about bullying and how it can be eradicated. He himself was expelled from school on several occasions and admitted that he had been a stalker. Now with his experience he wants to avoid victims and executioners. “Treat others as you would like them to treat you,” he insisted on pointing out during the workshop. And as a reinforcement activity a large graffiti was painted in the schoolyard. Teachers and students were in charge of coloring the wall and writing on it the phrase: “If you can dream it, you can do it.” Both Bartolomé Úbeda and Dolar One say that “if we can dream of schools without bullying, we can certainly do so”. And in this case, in addition, with the colors blue, green and red as they appear on the gypsy flag.
