Our military attache in Moscow cannot leave – with denied access to classified information

Denied access to classified information prevents the departure of the Bulgarian military attache in Moscow. For months, the name has been associated with the name of the former head of the Military Police, Gen. Borislav Sertov.

In March, after the discovery of a spy group of former and current Bulgarian servicemen, they received dollars to spy for the Russian GRU, Sertov confirmed to “24 Chasa” that the departure is delayed due to “complicated and long procedure”.

Sources from the Ministry of Defense claim that the lack of permission to access secrets is the main reason why Sertov has not left for the Russian capital so far.

From a Facebook chat between Sertov and the chief secretary of the administration of the head of state Dimitar Stoyanov, who published “24 hours”, it became clear that the former chief of military police expects support from the presidential administration for his departure.

In March, Sertov defended military police, who were under investigation for allowing the escape of Ivan Iliev, the alleged spy group’s organizer in favor of Russian intelligence. The “resident,” as investigators called him, was arrested a few hours later in front of the Russian embassy.

Sertov himself categorically denied that he had unregulated contacts with Russian diplomatic representatives in our country, as well as to have received information about a visit of a Russian delegation on the territory of a Bulgarian military training ground in 2019, when a NATO military aircraft was located there. Thus, the former head of the “Military Police” rejected the information that among the Russian citizens was the then Russian Defense Attaché in Bulgaria – Vasily Sazanovich, who at the end of 2020 was another diplomat declared a “persona non grata” by Ministry of Foreign Affairs and he had to leave the country immediately.
