Almost three hundred cases in which people violated the decree on the consumption of alcohol in places where it is prohibited were discovered by the Ostrava police officers during the past weekend. They checked public spaces as part of their regular service and with the use of cameras from the city’s monitoring system.

During the weekend, they recorded 283 violations. “They resolved sixty-five of them in the order procedure, forty-nine of them were reported to the relevant administrative body for consideration. The rest of the offenses were resolved by agreement,” said Jindřich Machů, the spokesperson of the Ostrava Municipal Police, adding that the possibility of taking away a bottle of alcohol or a box of alcohol on the spot appears to be a very effective tool.

The confiscated alcohol then goes with the file to the administrative body, which subsequently decides on the confiscation of the item. For violation of the decree, police officers can impose a fine of up to ten thousand crowns on the spot. Defenders of order will continue with similar actions.
