Twenty opponents gathered early this Wednesday morning on the site of the future Olympic swimming pool in Aubervilliers. They protested against this construction site which led to the destruction of allotment gardens. Five activists were arrested.
Twenty opponents of the Olympic swimming pool project in Aubervilliers (Seine-Saint-Denis) prevented the continuation of the construction site this Wednesday morning, franceinfo learned from a police source. Some of them attached themselves to construction machinery.
The police intervened to disperse the gathering. The demonstrators, “jadists” (Gardens to defend, editor’s note) broke away, according to a police source. According to the same source, the organizer of this undeclared demonstration was arrested.
A total of five demonstrators were taken to the Aubervilliers police station for identity checks, according to a source familiar with the matter. A few demonstrators are gathered in front of the police station to demand their release.
The project to build the Olympic swimming pool in Aubervilliers arouses strong opposition. Already in September 2021, the police had intervened pto evacuate “jadists” who occupied the workers’ gardens of the commune to prevent their destruction. They challenged the validity of the building permit. An individual was then placed in police custody for contempt and violence against a police officer.
Previously, on April 17, 2021, a demonstration bringing together several hundred people had taken place on the site to protest against the building complex which will come into being at the same time as the aquatic facilities, in particular a solarium.
On September 20, justice had suspended building permit of this swimming pool which is part of the aquatic center planned for Aubervilliers. Butn November 23, the administrative court of appeal of Paris lifting the suspension of the building permit and authorized the resumption of construction work on the swimming pool.
