BOGOTA, KOMPAS.com – A boss drug cartels Colombia who briefly came to power after Pablo Escobar reported shot dead in his old age.

Beto Renteria, or Carlos Alberto Renteria Mantilla, was once the leader of the Norte del Valle cartel that smuggled fantastically priced cocaine to the US.

Renteria, who is said to have just returned to Colombia after serving seven years in prison in the US, was shot dead at her home in the Sajonia district of Tulua.

Local media reported that the 75-year-old cartel boss was sitting drinking water when the perpetrator shot him in the head.

Sicario or the executor used a 9 mm caliber “dumdum” bullet to ensure he was killed, before escaping on a motorcycle.

The local government immediately tightened security there to prevent anyone from getting angry and avenging the death of Beto Renteria.

It is not known who ordered the killing. But Renteria was known to have many enemies while she was still in power.

Targeted for Rp.74 billion

Reported The Sun Friday (18/9/2020), Renteria is said to have started a drug smuggling business in the mid-1970s.

His empire began to rise and gain influence after the Medellin drug cartel fell, with Pablo Escobar dying in 1993.

While he was running rampant, he fought brothers Miguel and Gilberto Rodriguez Orejuala, the leader of the rival Cali cartel.

The Norte del Valle cartel is said to have shipped large quantities of cocaine to Mexico and Peru, before being smuggled into “Uncle Sam’s Country”.

Washington responded by offering a reward of 5 million US dollars, around Rp 74 billion, for those who could target Renteria’s head.

Not only that. The US has also started targeting various assets owned by Renteria, ranging from farms, hotels, clinics to the Cortulua football team.
