Al-Marsad newspaper – AFP: The number of spectators in the 48 matches of the group stage of the World Cup in Qatar reached 2.45 million fans, an average of 96% of the stadiums’ capacity, according to the International Federation of Association Football “FIFA” on Saturday.
According to FIFA data, the Argentina-Mexico match was in the second round of Group C competitions, in which Lionel Messi and company earned a valuable 2-0 victory after a shocking 1-2 early loss to Saudi Arabia , the highest attendance in the stands since the 1994 World Cup in the United States, as the crowd at Lusail Stadium is 88,966.
And the International Federation underlined that the group stage led for the first time in the history of the World Cup to qualify for the final standings teams from all continents, three of which under the AFC banner (Australia, Japan and South Korea ) for the first time.
Only two African teams have qualified for the second time (Senegal and Morocco), following the first in 2014.
