Number of asylum seekers starts to increase again | Inland

In July, August and September, 4135 first asylum applications were submitted to the Immigration and Naturalization Service (IND). That is more than three times more than the previous quarter. But that is not as many as in the first quarter, when about 4,500 asylum applications were made.

In April, the statisticians counted the smallest number of first asylum applications since they started tracking this in 2013. “Due to international and national measures surrounding the corona crisis, considerably fewer asylum seekers and following relatives registered in the second quarter,” according to the CBS. In the months that followed, more asylum seekers again came this way.

Syrians remain the largest group of asylum seekers. In the previous quarter, one in three people who applied for asylum came from here. Many people from Turkey, Morocco and Algeria also came forward.

The number of following family members has also increased again. These are family members of people with a residence permit who have reunited with them. This happened 855 times in the third quarter. That is more than three times more than the previous quarter.
