Nintendo’s handheld 3DS machine has been cooking for a while, but now it finally seems to be over. It reports among others the site Engadget.
Without making a big deal out of it, Nintendo has quietly conveyed the message that the production of the 3DS has ended on, among other things, its British and Japanese websites. At the same time it has American website removed its 3DS references.
The Nintendo 3DS was launched in March 2011, and has been on the market for almost ten years. according to Nintendo’s own numbers The console has sold 75.87 million copies as of June 30 this year.
3D screen without glasses
Thus, it is well behind its predecessor DS, which reached as much as 154 million units during its lifetime – which makes the DS by far Nintendo’s best-selling console ever.
The 3DS has the special feature that it comes with a so-called autostereoscopic screen, a screen that shows 3D images without the need for glasses or other special equipment.
The console has come in several different editions, the latest of which was New Nintendo 3DS, an upgraded version with slightly more powerful hardware and a front camera with face tracking that is used to achieve a more stable 3D effect.
Before this came a larger one XL version of the computer, and Nintendo has also released a 3D-loose version called 2DS.
As always, Nintendo’s own first-party titles have received the most praise on the platform, including The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds and Super Mario 3D Land.
